Spiral ham can be boneless. However, most butchers will create a spiral ham cut by slicing a bone-in ham into one big spiral shape. The spiral bone-in ham has a natural, preserved fresh flavor and it's easier to cut. Further, any meat cooked on the bone has better flavor. With ham, it also has better texture.
Did you know that when producers remove the bone from a ham, they must reshape the meat (in a machine called a vacuum tumbler) so that it doesn't fall apart when you slice it?
Spiral hams are already fully cooked and you only need to warm it through and crisp up the edges. Estimate your warming time based upon 10 to 12 minutes per pound. Place your ham in a warm oven in a deep, heavy pot, and tent it with foil.
